Paula Santirocco draws on her experience in
music to produce art which makes a big statement while
expressing sensuality. By layering acrylic paint and using
it as a water medium she gives her paintings luminous depth and
richness.
Color
and texture are also the inspiration behind her line of jewelry.
All pieces are made with semi-precious stones, colorful minerals,
genuine pearls and
sterling silver.
Paula
played flute in the Cleveland area for over 20 years, as principal flute
with the Ohio Chamber Orchestra, the Cleveland Ballet, the Cleveland
Opera and various touring Broadway shows. During that time she
developed some experimental techniques in copper enameling. She
began writing poetry at age 14 and was published in Voices of Cleveland in
1997. Some of her sonnets are included here as part of her gallery
of work.
Earlier works explore empowerment of women and
femininity. She also created The Sonnet Paintings which each convey the
images of 20 of her sonnets. These show a variety of styles,
unique for each poem's imagery.
In 2018 her son and only child died. After
a long period of being unable to paint, she found she could not
pick up where she left off. A new style developed.
Brighter, more organic and life-affirming. She now is
inspired by nature and paints fantasy forests and landscapes,
sometimes with an impressionistic approach, and large,
dream-like abstracts. Please enjoy looking at this online gallery. Many of these works are available
for sale. Contact Paula if you are interested in acquiring one of
her paintings.
